TBM&SC expands its Community Outreach Program by joining with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Organization in providing a youth education program. An eight month program, meeting once a month, began in January 2013. Workshops are provided by the volunteer teachers and students of the club.
Events:
Basic Jewelry Techniques – Jan 19, 2013 and February 09, 2013
Wire Wrap - March 10, 2013
Creating a Gem Tree - April 7, 2013
Soapstone Carving a Pendant - May 19, 2013
The project is off to a strong start. Twelve people attended the first session Jan 19– six teams of two – Big Sister and her “Little”. Eighteen people attended the second session February 9. Participants met at the Club house at 1:30 p.m and were given a tour of the premises along with a brief history of the club and its activities.
Seven of our members are volunteer teachers for this new program: Judy Anderson, Claudia Rosenfeld, Brenda Marhon, Norma Jackson, Terrie Foster, Gerri Brooks, Jerri Heer and Susan Rondon.
Several of the teacher/volunteers donated beads, findings and some practice wire. The project was a leather string necklace with pendant and earrings. Each group was given written instructions with diagrams. The Club provided the tools for the teams to use.
A good time was had by all. Thanks to each of the Club Members that donated their time and goodwill, as this a huge contributor to the success of the event.
